10 arrested in USVI for allegedly submitting fake COVID-19 results

Law enforcement officers with the [US] VI COVID-19 Task Force on Friday, May 14, 2021, at 11:30 am arrested ten people at the Cyril E. King Airport for allegedly uploading fake COVID-19 test results into the USVI Travel Portal, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
According to the news release, officers arrested Savonne Hunter, age 38 of Lindenhood, NJ; Chalayaa Downing, age 29 of New Jersey; Sashay Clegg, age 36 of Morrisville, PA; Laurie Downing, age 60 of New Jersey; Kim Clegg, age 61; Deanna Brittingham, age 34 of New Jersey; Albonte Collins, age 51 of Pennsylvania; Daisy Fregoni, age 54 of Morrisville, PA; Michael Clegg, age 30 of New Jersey, and Raheem Thompson, age 24 of New Jersey.

Mr Derima said the suspects appeared to have traveled together, and none tested positive for COVID-19. All ten individuals were charged with fraudulent claims upon the government, access to a computer for fraudulent purposes, use of false information, and filing or recording forged instruments.

The ten individuals were arrested for submitting altered COVID-19 test results to the USVI Travel Portal.

Bail for all ten individuals was set at $5,500 each. They all posted 10 percent of the bail amount and were released pending their advisement hearing.
