$100K contract signed for repair of Jeffrey Caines Sports Arena

Virgin Gordians will soon have a repaired sporting facility, thanks to a $100,000 contract issued for the overhaul of the Jeffrey Caines Sports Arena.

The construction firm – AGS Construction – was successful in its bid on the project.

Delivering brief remarks during the signing ceremony on Thursday, September 17, 2020, Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) said he was pleased that a contractor from Virgin Gorda won the bid.

“I am always happy to see progress being made in the Ninth District with a twist today because I think it’s the first project in the Ninth District with a Ninth District contractor. So that is progress.”

Hon Wheatley noted too that he was familiar with the contractor and that he was proud of his progress.

“He started out trying to be a singer and a chef, and he finally found his way to construction, and he is doing a fantastic job in the construction industry. I am very proud of this young man,” he said.

This overhaul is timely

Hon Wheatley further said: “The Jeffery Caines Sports Arena is not simply a construction project, it means a lot to the people of Virgin Gorda because we don’t have a lot of activities that we do on other islands like Tortola, so basketball is the lifeline of Virgin Gorda where we come together and fellowship while getting exercise,” he remarked.

The covered facility was damaged by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.

“I am just pleased that this project is finally coming to fruition,” Hon Wheatley concluded.
