151 active COVID-19 cases currently in the territory

Despite what appeared to be a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the territory in recent months, the Acting Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Ronald Georges is urging residents to be vigilant as there are currently 151 active cases of the virus in the territory.
However, the Acting CMO noted most of the persons are experiencing mild symptoms. He added that six persons were admitted to the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital but not as a direct result of COVID-19.

Dr Georges reminded people who tested positive for COVID-19 to self-isolate for a period of 10 days. He also said people can resume normal activities if they test negative by rapid test seven days after onset of symptoms or on completion of 10 days of isolation without a COVID-19 test.

“Persons who have been exposed to a positive case meaning a mask-less contact for at least 15 minutes or who think that they have been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 should ensure that they wear a well-fitted mask when around others.” Dr Georges advised.

The Acting Chief Medical Officer further stated that COVID-19 positive persons should also avoid contact with vulnerable persons for 10 to 14 days, conduct a COVID-19 test five to seven days after the exposure, and continue to monitor themselves for 10 to 14 days. After that time has elapsed, they can go back to normal precautions.

Dr Georges is urging the community to remain vigilant and seek to self-isolate and be tested if they are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 including fever, aches, cough, or nasal symptoms.

Persons experiencing more severe symptoms or who may be vulnerable should seek medical attention.
