1918 influenza pandemic survivor interview: Mrs. Edna Register Boone

Mrs. Boone, 100 year-old resident of Mobile, tells how her family was the only family in a small rural Alabama area that did not contract the flu during the 1918 flu outbreak. Mrs. Boone's family all became responders in her community. Her parents become instant nurses and she delivered soup to the door of ill families.

Edna Boone commented that her family had the habit of taking 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water in the morning. Her mother said this "would neutralize the system" and they would be less susceptible to germs. Edna thought this is what saved them. "It must have worked - we were the only family, entire family, that did not contract that dreadful disease" Doctors who worked for the US Public Health service following the Spanish Flu received many reports that many were saved like The Boone Family by taking simple baking soda. Some doctors were also using bicarbonate of soda as a treatment for severely ill patients and seeing them make stunning recoveries. Recent research affirmations that Flu and Coronaviruses are ph sensitive and can be rendered uninfective. Please see more at
