42 persons granted Belongership status in VI

Some 42 new persons have been granted Belongership status in the Virgin Islands under different criteria according to statements of the Cabinet meeting of December 8, 2021, released today, Thursday, December 23, 2021.

According to the statements, Cabinet “Reviewed and accepted the recommendations of the Board of Immigration, to grant Certificates of Belonger Status to twelve (12) persons who, in accordance with section 16(6) of the Immigration and Passport Act (revised) are the spouses of belongers,”

The statements further indicated that the individuals have living together with their spouses within the Territory, “for a period not less than five (5) years.”

All cabinet members were present for the meeting that was chaired by His Excellency, the Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, at the Financial Services Commission’s Resource Centre.


30 additional granted status


A further 30 persons were also approved for Belongership status to bring the total to 42.

The statements indicated that Cabinet, “accepted the Board’s recommendations to grant Certificates of Belonger Status to thirty (30) applicants, who, in the opinion of the Board, have met the legal requirements of Section 16(3) of the immigration and passport act (revised); and directed that the Immigration Department communicates Cabinet’s decision to the respective applicants.”

All cabinet members were present for the meeting that was chaired by His Excellency, the Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, at the Financial Services Commission’s Resource Centre.
