Sections of the BVI was rattled by a 5.17 magnitude earthquake Wednesday afternoon, October 7. The Puerto Rico Seismic Network said the earthquake was felt around 2:30 pm.
The epicentre of the tremor was 51.64 kilometres south-southeast of Virgin Gorda and 59.76 kilometres southeast of Road Town, Tortola.
There is no warning, advisory, or watch in effect for the BVI, the USVI or Puerto Rico at this time.
