65 questions including on CoI & crime await Gov’t @ today’s HoA

When the Seventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands is held at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola from 10:00 am today, April 15, 2021, there will be a long list of questions for the sitting Government.

According to the Order Paper released today, 65 questions, some with many parts, are lined up under Questions and Answers to Questions.

Hon De Castro to ask questions!

In a rare occurrence, questions will also come from the Government side of the aisle as the Junior Minister for Tourism and Territorial Member Hon Sharie B. De Castro will bring up the matter of the Commission of Inquiry into governance.

Ho De Castro is to ask the Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1): “(a) What is the Government’s policy in respect of the recent Commission of Inquiry? (b) What is the function and remit of the independent Inquiry Response Unit set up by the Government under the Attorney General? And (c) What is the progress of its work to date?”

Hon De Castro will also want to know what resources have been given to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force within the last three years to help combat crime and what are the plans to be implemented to reduce the apparent rise of more serious crimes.

Meanwhile, the Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) will have a series of questions on financial accountability.

Bills

Three Bills will get their Introduction and First Reading; the Integrity in Public Life Act, 2021; Cruising and Home Port Permit Act, 2021; and Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Act, 2021.

Some 8 bills are scheduled to get their Second and Third Readings, including the Cruising and Home Port Permit Act, 2021; Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Act, 2021; and Stamps (Amendment) Act, 2021.

The HoA Sitting will be carried live on CBN Radio 90.9 FM, CBN-Television Channel 101 on Flow TV and can also be followed on the HoA YouTube channel and online at www.cbnvirginislands.com.
