As the BVI continues to enjoy a COVID-19-free community, cases in the neighbouring US Virgin Islands (USVI) are on the increase, with a 65-year-old being the latest to die of the virus.
The USVI Health Department last night confirmed that the 65-year-old man lived on St Croix. His death is the twenty-second
COVID-related death in that territory which currently has 37 active cases.
On Friday, the USVI recorded 14 new cases. This was one day after
the Virgin Islands Daily News – a USVI local newspaper – published a story telling visitors not to visit the BVI because of ‘stringent’ protocols.
Health authorities said six of the new cases are linked to a cargo vessel in the St Thomas Harbour.
With the increase in cases, health authorities told the USVI public that staying home is the best way to protect themselves and others.
The USVI has already recorded more than one thousand
COVID-19 cases
