Sixty-seven percent of eligible public officers have received their 2016 increments that was promised by government earlier this year.
Premier and Minister of Finance Andrew Fahie made the announcement during Thursday’s sitting of the House of Assembly.

The Premier said the Department of Human Resources advised him the total number of public officers eligible for the 2016 increments stands at 2,163. He further said all persons are expect to receive their monies by the end of next month.

He said: “As of 30th September 2019, an estimated 67 percent of eligible officers have been paid their increments. The Department of Human Resources has provided monthly updates on the progress of increment payments and is reported they will continue to work towards completion by the end of November 2019.”

He also outlined the procedure taken by the Department of Human Resources in determining the eligible public officers.

“I’ve been advised by the Director of Human Resources that on 24th June 2019, the Department of Human Resources provided notice and instructions for processing of the increments for the 2016 work year by way of a human resources circular.”

“With the collaboration of accounting officers, normal roles were vetted for officer’s eligibility, salary changes and position movements,” Fahie said.

Premier Fahie also hinted at the possibility of public officers beginning to receive their 2017 increments by the end of the year.

“My government is deligently monitoring the revenues with conditions permeting, we maybe in the position to pay the 2017 increments as early as the middle of December 2019 and that is with the conditions permitting, if they remain the same as they are,” he said.

The Premier had announced in his budget address back in April that the estimates for the years 2016 and 2017 would be included in the 2019 budget.

On June 19, 2019, Cabinet approved the payments of the 2016 and 2017 increments in leu of performance increments, with the immediate payments of the 2016 increments, inclusive of all salaries from 1st January 2017 to date.
