7 authors launch booklet for living healthy amidst COVID-19

Local authors in collaboration with the Department of Culture will be hosting a ceremony for the launching of the book ‘Living Healthy in the Era of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19’ on Monday, April 25.

The book launch event will take place at the Reverend Ralph Perry-Gore Centre for Missions and Ministry in Sea Cow’s Bay at 5:00 p.m.

‘Living Healthy in the Era of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19’ is a small booklet said to be rich in practical steps as it focuses on the health of the immune system, which is the body’s first line of defense against illnesses and diseases.

The book’s contents also offer dietary and other health practices and local remedies; encourages healthy nutritional practices; provides tips for home gardening and complements any initiative created to mitigate COVID-19.

The authors of the literary piece are Mrs. Sylvia Adams, Mrs. Philippa Barry, Dr. Nadine Battle, Ms. Kenya Jeffers, Dr. Bernadette McKelly, Mrs. Bernet Scatliffe and Mrs. Marreth Smith.

“We have learned with increasing clarity many things about the virus, and maintaining a healthy immune system is the best choice you can make for living optimally in the presence of this virus,” the authors said in a statement.

Deputy Director of Culture, Anne A. Lennard, confirmed that the department was particularly pleased to be involved with the launch of the booklet which was produced by seven well-informed and reputable local authors.

Ms. Lennard added, “It is no secret that our Territory continues to adjust our behaviours and lives as we live with COVID. Lastly, we are excited that the booklet is FREE OF COST which also ensures that everyone who may want one can easily secure a copy."

Persons are encouraged to attend and support the book launch as the Department of Culture continues to support local authors and develop the Virgin Islands’ cultural heritage and traditions.
