73-year-old woman struck by Taxi in STT dies @ hospital

An elderly woman was struck by a taxicab Thursday afternoon and died after being transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center to receive care, the V.I. Police Department has made known via a release.
According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on Thursday about at 1:38 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report from a resident regarding someone who was struck by a vehicle on the Moravian Highway in the area of Nisky Center.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a taxicab was traveling westward on Moravian Highway in the right lane in the area of Nisky Center, when an elderly woman was crossing the road and was struck by the taxicab. She sustained life-threatening injuries and expired at the hospital, the V.I.P.D. said.

The woman was identified by next of kin as Pauline Sharry, age 73, who was known for selling newspapers in that area for a number of years.

Traffic Commander Captain Roslyn Jarvis and the V.I.P.D. extended condolences to the friends and family of Ms. Sharry.

The V.I.P.D. said the incident is currently under investigation by the V.I.P.D.'s Traffic Investigation Bureau.
