This was reported minutes ago, August 28, 2020, by Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) via a live COVID-19 update livestreamed on the Government of the Virgin Islands’ Facebook page.
According to Hon Malone, 529 persons were tested for coronavirus between August 25-27, 2020, and these persons were mainly comprised of primary and secondary contacts of recently identified cases #12 through 26.
Swabs and testing, Hon Malone continued, included residents of Anegada, returning nationals and belongers and other categories of persons routinely tested for COVID-19.
“I am further reporting that 520 of these results were returned negative while 9 were returned as positive for the virus that causes COVID-19,” Hon Malone said.
The 9 new cases, according to the Health Minister, were linked to known clusters on the eastern end of Tortola and in Road Town.
With these additional findings, the total number of positive cases recorded in the Territory is now 35.
Hon Malone also disclosed that 2 of the positive cases are hospitalised; however, none of the patients are experiencing severe symptoms of COVID-19 disease.
The total number of persons tested in the Territory is now 2853.
