Active COVID cases in VI climb to 1272

The Government of the Virgin Islands, via the Territory's Epidemiological Summary, is reporting that active COVID-19 cases in the territory have climbed to 1272 since the last update of January 7, 2022, when the figure was 1049 active cases.

This is according to results of testing done on January 9, 2022, and reported on January 10, 2022.

There are 314 new cases.

According to the Summary, 1035 active cases are on Tortola, 214 on Virgin Gorda, 19 on Anegada and 4 on Jost van Dyke.

The bulk of the active cases is from local cases and contacts of cases.

There have been 4764 total COVID-19 cases recorded and 3452 recoveries.

40 persons have passed away due to COVID-19 complications.

The upsurge in cases in the Virgin Islands is being attributed to the Delta and Omicron variants.


16 hospitalised


Meanwhile, 16 persons are hospitalised at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital due to COVID-19 related illnesses.
