After much public outcry, sewer & road works start in East End

After much outcry over the long-standing issues of sewerage on the streets and the deplorable state of the roads on the eastern end of Tortola, the public can expect some amount of relief soon.

The public is being advised that a portion of Blackburn Highway Road in the vicinity of Fat Hogs Bay and Long Swamp in East End, Tortola will be closed from Friday, September 30 to Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm daily to facilitate sewer and road reinstatement works.

According to a press release from Government Information Services (GIS) today, September 30, 2022, residents and businesses on the eastern end of Tortola can expect to see traffic delays as the Ministry of Communications and Works continues work on the East End Long Look Sewerage Project.

This phase of the project extends from Fat Hogs Bay to Long Swamp in East End and will make way for the initial stages of the road reinstatement.

Scope of works

Acting Chief of Infrastructure Research and Development in the Ministry of Communications and Works, Mr Duane Fraites outlined the scope of works:

*  Friday, September 30, between the Vanterpool Estate’s ‘Bus Stop’ and Fine Foods.

*  Saturday, October 1, between Vanterpoo Estate’s ‘Bus Stop’ and the entrance to ‘DeDe’s Rentals’

*  Sunday, October 2, water and sewer works for entire stretch with minimum road interruption.

*  Monday, October 3, between the junction adjacent ‘Nature’s Way’ to Fat Hogs Bay.

Mr Fraites said motorists departing and commuting to East End and Long Look should use the Ridge Road route option, by way of Little Dix Hill Road to commute to and from Road Town.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and follow all signage while traversing the area.
