Anegada boat accident: Police confirms boat crashed into ferry dock

Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Marine Branch have confirmed reports by our news centre on May 18, 2023, that a man lost his life tragically after the boat he was in crashed into the ferry dock at Anegada on May 17, 2023.

The accident claimed the life of Bakimba George, 28, of Valley, Virgin Gorda.

Police in a press release Saturday evening, May 20, 2023, said they are gathering the needed details to determine the cause of the fatal boating accident.

According to the release, George was injured and subsequently died of injuries sustained in the incident.

The boat accident on May 17, 2023, claimed the life of Bakimba George, 28, of Valley, Virgin Gorda.



Speedboat collided into dock

“Initial investigations indicate that about 6:30pm Wednesday evening a male captain and the deceased were leaving the dock in Anegada on a 17-foot speedboat when the boat collided into the dock.

“Both occupants were thrown forward and sustained injuries to their upper bodies. The men were transported to the Dr. D. O. Smith Hospital, however Bakima George subsequently died of his injuries. The captain was treated and released,” Police stated.

The RVIPF also said the boat received extensive damage in the incident.
