Another bank victim to fraudulent emails being sent under their name

Another bank is reporting a case of fraudulent emails being sent under their name. The state-owned National Bank of the Virgin Islands issued the warning on Monday, August 26, following reports of clients receiving suspicious emails.

“We have been informed that some of our customers have received fraudulent/phishing emails with the subject, ‘Your Account has been Debited’, which further guides to a link,” the banking institution said.

The bank is, therefore, instructing persons who receive any such emails to refrain from opening the email, clicking any links, or providing any personal information.

Customers are also being told to immediately delete and block the sender’s address, ignore all request from the sender, and not reply to the sender.

Persons who may have already clicked on the link in the email are being asked to contact the National Bank by phone or by visiting their customer service department at their main branch on Wickham’s Cay I.

The National Bank said they take information security seriously and asked customers to assist in preventing fraudulent activity by being vigilant.

“The bank will never ask our clients to provide confidential information via email,” it said.

Back in May, FirstBank VI was another victim of fraudulent emails. At the time, they said a number of their clients reported such incidences.
