Attempt allegedly made to steal $$ from night depository @ First Caribbean Bank

Reports just reaching Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) are that there was an attempt to breach a night deposit facility at First Caribbean International Bank in Road Town, Tortola, over the past weekend.

The attempted breach was allegedly done sometime between the close of business last Friday evening, October 2, 2020, and early Monday morning, October 5, 2020.

The discovery was made on Monday when persons were attempting to use the night deposit chute and realised it was not closing.

Night depository was tampered with

When security personnel properly investigated the defect, they discovered the deposit facility was tampered with.

A metal bar and fishing line attached to glue traps were reportedly found in the vault.

It is believed the burglars attempted to retrieve deposits that were in the vault but their efforts failed.

While the bank is equipped with CCTV cameras, reports are they were disabled during the weekend due to power failure.
