Back-To-School Drive-Thru Targets 300 D-5 Students

Back-To-School Drive-Thru Targets 300 D-5 Students

Fifth District Representative Hon. Kye Rymer said some 300 students in his district will be given free school supplies, hair cuts and hairstyles to usher in the new academic school year.
Dubbed the ‘Back to School Drive Thru’, it will be held on Saturday 4th September at the Festival Grounds from 10 am.

“We started in 2019 but due to COVID-19 in 2020 we were unable to, we had no in-persons school so we couldn’t do it at that time. So when it was announced that we were going to do in-person school, so we came together, and we thought it was necessary to offer some backpacks with school supplies, haircuts and hair braiding for students in the Fifth District,” Hon. Rymer told BVI Platinum News.

He said persons who are interested in that initiative from his district must first call to register at 499-5565.

“We want to make sure that the students come with their parents so that we can do proper due diligence as well,” he added.

Hon. Rymer said the initiative is being funded out of pocket, and some barbers and hairstylists will be giving free hairstyles; however, the final expenditure is not yet known.

In the meantime, a similar venture will take place in the Ninth District.

Ninth District Representative Hon. Vincent Wheatley said the event would also take the form of a drive-thru, but it is still in the planning phase.
