Barbados taking more steps to remove Queen as Head of State

Barbadians will soon get more information and details about the island's republic status.

After the announcement in the Throne Speech back in September, that the island will be working to attain such by Independence Day 2021, on March 22, 2021, in the House of Assembly, Prime Minister Mia Amor A. Mottley said that work is indeed ongoing on that front.

She disclosed:

"I hope also to meet with the Transition Committee to the Status of Republic this week, and I will be in a position to better update the country after meeting with that committee and to let others know what arrangements will be put in place as we go forward."

And she said that a discussion as it relates to the renaming of Queen's Park in Barbados' capital city of Bridgetown may arise as well in the context of becoming a republic.

In fact, the prime minister said, "I'm sure Barbadians will want to rename it at an appropriate time but as a gift to the Republic of Barbados.
