Berlin Doctor Charged with Murdering Eight Elderly Patients
Suspect Allegedly Used Fire to Conceal Crimes
German prosecutors have charged a 40-year-old Berlin doctor with the murder of eight elderly patients.
The unnamed suspect, employed in palliative care, is accused of intentionally ending the lives of individuals aged between 61 and 94 while also setting fires to hide his actions.
Initially detained in August under suspicion of killing four women, the suspect is now linked to four additional deaths as investigations continue.
The alleged crimes stretched across various Berlin districts, occurring between June 2022 and April 2024.
Prosecutors label his acts as driven by a 'lust for murder,' with no identified motive beyond the act itself.
The suspect's method purportedly involved administering lethal doses of medication.
Fires, meant to erase evidence, were sometimes unsuccessful, as seen in incidents where emergency services rescued survivors.
Authorities continue to probe multiple instances of arson associated with these cases.
