Biden Plans $725 Million Weapons Package for Ukraine

U.S. Prepares to Bolster Ukrainian Defense Amid Russian Advances
The Biden administration is preparing a $725 million weapons package for Ukraine, as reported by two U.S. officials.

The plan aims to deliver anti-tank weapons, including drones, Stinger missiles, and ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), to help counter Russian forces.

The package also includes controversial 'non-persistent' land mines, designed to deactivate after a short period, reducing long-term civilian risk.

These landmines have not been exported by the U.S. for decades due to humanitarian concerns.

The formal Congressional notification could take place as soon as Monday, with adjustments possible before President Biden's authorization.

This move represents a significant increase in the Presidential Drawdown Authority, with Biden having $4 billion to $5 billion available.

The decision comes as Russia gains ground in Ukraine, claiming sizable territory recently.

Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump appointed Keith Kellogg to devise a strategy to end the conflict, aiming to fulfill his campaign vow to conclude the war expediently.
