Bike found! Fireman’s burial halted as suspicion of foul play arises
Information reaching our news centre is that the discovery of deceased fireman Shaqhoi Smith’s motorcycle has led to an increased suspicion surrounding his death and ultimately a stoppage of his burial to conduct an autopsy.
Smith was involved in a scooter accident on April 18 and succumbed to his injuries at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital on April 22.
Smith’s motorcycle was not found at the scene when police arrived on the scene. However, the motorcycle was recently found intact.
A scheduled viewing and funeral service was held on May 21, 2022, but when it was time for the burial, the body was returned to the funeral home after the service and not to the burial ground.
A source close to the family said the family had always suspected there was some foul play involved in the fire officer’s untimely demise. It is our understanding that the recent discovery of Smith’s intact motorcycle confirmed the family’s fears of suspected wrongdoing.
This led to a request for an autopsy and stalling the burial of the fire officer to determine the exact cause of death and rule out the possibility of foul play.
Our news centre reached out to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force for comment but no answer was received up to publication time.
BVI News will provide updates as they become available.
