Blazers reach 2nd round playoffs; East Rockers 2.0 on the ropes!

The formidable VG Bayside Blazers have advanced to the second round of playoffs in the BVI Basketball Federation (BVIBF) National ‘District’ League; however, one of the favourites- East Rockers 2.0- is now in a do-or-die situation.

After winning the first game in the Best of Three Playoffs with Filipinas on September 11, 2021, VG Bayside Blazers made it a clean sweep on Wednesday, September 16, 2021, defeating Filipinas 75-72 in a keenly contested affair that saw Filipinas fighting tooth and nail to stay alive but forced to give up the ghost against the undefeated Blazers.

The consistent Stephano Paul led the Blazers scoring with 19 points and 10 rebounds and was ably supported by Kimron Telemaque who dropped in 18 points.

Travis A. Issac, with 12 points, was the other VG Bayside Blazers player registering double figure scores.

The talented Louie A. Poblete led the Filipinas resistance with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals in a valiant but vain effort.

Dreyonte Finley (17 points) and Rodrigo Gatchalian (13 points) were the other players who helped to keep hope alive for the Filipinas until time ran out.

Guns fire back against East Rockers 2.0

One of the favourites in the league, East Rockers 2.0, had destroyed Guns 103-77 in the their first playoff game on Sunday, September 12, 2021; however, guns came back fully loaded on Wednesday to hand East Rockers 2.0 defeat via a score line of 87-81.

The inspirational Ray D. Victor led from the front with an amazing 45 points, 16 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 steals and 3 assists to keep Guns alive in the best of 3 series.

Nathan France fired in 13points and wrestled 11 rebounds while D’Andre Penn knocked in 12 points.

Makebo Fahie was the leading scorer for East Rockers 2.0 with 19 points while Leslee J. Smith had 16. Dameon Ottley netted 14 points and 12 rebounds.

With the series tied 1-1, heavy favourites East Rockers 2.0 risk crashing out the tournament and will have to go back to the drawing board to strategise against the resurgent Guns led by the never say die Victor.
