Boris is gone, colonialism lives on

Boris is gone, colonialism lives on

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, the latest disgraced British Prime Minister, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson finally resigned.

So, what does this mean for the United Kingdom Overseas Territories of Anguilla, Bermuda Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands and [British] Virgin Islands?

In reality, it means very little as the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) mandate does not change.

No matter which party is in power, who is the Prime Minister or whomever the Minister for Overseas Territories may be, UK Colonialism still lives on.

Forced agendas

On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, UK Lord Michael M. Cashman laid a private members bill in the House of Lords that would, if passed in both houses, force the OTs to accept SSM.

"The explanatory notes state that the “Bill empowers the Governor of each Territory to make changes to the law in the Territory to recognize the lawfulness of same-sex marriage.”

Let me repeat, if passed, this bill would force the OTs to accept UK morals that do not line up with the will of the Caribbean people.

Some may recall that this was part of the agenda of the Foreign Affairs Committee "Global Britain" report of 2019.

Yes, the very same report that recommended UK nationals should get the right to vote in elections in the OTs.

For the moment let's not get caught in the side debate.

The key issue is that one person, or a small group of Europeans in London, have the ability to attempt to dictate to 200,000 persons in the Mid-Atlantic and Caribbean.

I don't recall those persons attempting to even have a conversation with the elected leaders of the OTs.

Do you?

Do we need a better example of racism and colonialism?

Don't bow down

So, what does this mean for the OTs?

Option A: We lay down and allow a few Europeans to dictate their version of morality to us.

Option B: We stand united and do not allow them to force their ways on us.

If we bow down to this, it will only be a matter of time before they force us to accept UK nationals voting in our elections.

Boris is gone. But make no mistake, UK Colonialism lives on.
