Bosnia and Herzegovina Encounters Political Turmoil Following Arrest Warrant Issued for Serb Leader
An arrest warrant has been issued for Milorad Dodik due to his disregard for the constitutional court; NATO has reiterated its commitment to Bosnia's territorial integrity.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing considerable political turmoil following the issuance of an arrest warrant for Milorad Dodik, the President of the Republika Srpska (RS), the entity with a Serb majority in the country.
On March 12, 2025, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced the warrant, citing Dodik's disregard for the country's constitutional court and his enactment of laws that undermine state institutions.
The situation escalated when the National Assembly of the RS approved a draft for a new constitution, which would grant the entity sovereign powers, including the ability to create its own army and judiciary.
This action is viewed as a move towards secession and a possible integration with Serbia, posing a challenge to the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement that concluded the Bosnian War.
