Brexit: Londoners cautiously welcome trade deal between UK and EU

There was a mixed but generally welcoming reaction last week in London to news that the United Kingdom had reached a deal with the European Union over Brexit.
The U.K. voted four years ago to leave the bloc, but an agreement on terms was only reached seven days before the Dec. 31 deadline.

The agreement, hammered out after nine months of tense negotiations, will ensure Britain and the 27-nation bloc can continue to trade in goods without tariffs or quotas.

The European Parliament said on Thursday it would analyze the deal in detail before deciding whether to approve the agreement in the new year.

British Parliament will debate and vote on the deal Dec. 30, just one day before the transition period lapses.
