Metro reports that builders renovating a home on Cleveland Road in Lytham, Lancashire, discovered human bones on 15 August and alerted police.
Investigators confirmed the remains are human and said they may belong to children, but they believe the burial is an isolated, historic one and not suspicious:contentReference.
Detective Inspector Andrew Crook called the discovery “incredibly sad” and said enquiries continue to identify the remains and determine how the individuals died.
The bones have been removed from the property while investigations continue.
