Living in BVI is super-expensive and dying becomes even more

Living in BVI is super-expensive and dying becomes even more

Funerals are becoming more and more costly and Representative for the Fourth District Hon. Mark Vanterpool is calling on the Social Security Board (SSB) to increase its funeral contribution amount.
While Speaking in the Private Members Business segment of the December 13 sitting House of Assembly sitting Hon. Vanterpool lamented that as a District Representative he receives numerous requests to contribute to funerals. He noted that this is because the cost of funerals has increased.

While noting that the Social Security Board does its part, the Opposition Member said that more should be done. “I want to challenge the Social Security Board to review their policy. They are very helpful, they have been there for a lot of people; but where their giving $3000 that was 20 years old.”

“Now they (SSB) need to review that because Mr. Speaker burial don’t cost $3000 anymore. It cost a lot more. Those people who made their contributions to the Board and when it comes to the time when they need a little help they can’t ask for because they’re gone, but once they made their contributions let’s find a way to move that $3000 up to $5000.”
