BVI cyclist makes history at PanAm Masters Cycling Championship

BVI cyclist makes history at PanAm Masters Cycling Championship

Philippe Leroy last week secured the BVI’s first gold medal at the 2022 Pan American Masters Road Cycling Championship held in Colombia.
This is the first time the BVI has won a medal at these high-level masters competitions which saw riders from North and South America, Canada, and the Caribbean.

Leroy represented the BVI in three events at the games.

He placed first in the individual Time Trials race with Colombians Gerardo Moncada and Fernando Al Grajales placing second and third, respectively.

For the Road Race, Leroy placed 18th as this was a team event that would have required more BVI cyclists for him to place in the top three.

The final event held last Sunday was the Criterium where Leroy placed 12th overall.

The BVI Cycling Federation congratulated Phillipe Leroy and pledged to continue developing the sport of cycling locally.

The Cycling Federation also said they will be celebrating Leroy’s gold medal this Saturday November 26, with a motorcade starting from the Purcell Roundabout to the Queen Elizabeth Park II . The event will start at 3 pm.
