BVI opening registration to get alternative vaccines in USVI

BVI opening registration to get alternative vaccines in USVI

Health Minister Carvin Malone said registration will likely begin today for BVI residents interested in receiving the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the US Virgin Islands (USVI).
According to Malone, the protocols are currently being finalised by Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Ronald Georges for how the activity will be rolled out.

The Health Minister said the first trip is expected sometime early next week and vaccinations are expected to be done at a dedicated site on the island of St John in the neighbouring territory and persons are expected to leave the West End port facility to get there.

Persons are expected to telephone 284-852-7525 to register their names for the service being provided.

In the first instance, the facility is expected to be extended to persons between the ages of 12-18 years once they are accompanied by parent or guardian.

Adults above 18 will be in the second batch, the Health Minister said.

Recently, the USVI’s Governor Albert Bryan Jr said the USVI was doing everything it could to help the BVI after a severe upsurge that saw 31 COVID-related deaths and more than 1,600 active 19 cases at one stage.

The BVI has seen a significant reduction in active cases now currently standing at 584 persons and continues to be under a 7pm to 5am daily curfew.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister said if the BVI is expected to return to a state of normalcy where there are no lockdowns or curfews in place, everyone has to do their part in getting vaccinated.
