BVI’s Rotary group hosting telethon to raise $50K for St Vincent

BVI’s Rotary group hosting telethon to raise $50K for St Vincent

The Rotary group in the British Virgin Islands is attempting to raise $50,000 to assist St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) which is being greatly affected by eruptions from the La Soufriere volcano.
To that end, the BVI Rotary group will mount a telethon to purchase urgent amenities needed to assist St Vincent residents.

Rotaractors and Interactors will also form a ‘Bucket Brigade’ to collect donations from persons on their way home. This is scheduled to happen between 4 and 6 pm — just before the telethon begins.

The local Rotary group said they will be relying on the Pan American Health Organization and Rotary International with the hope that essential items can be “immediately purchased and shipped to the nearest port for transfer to SVG”.

“Helping our neighbours and countries which have suffered various forms of devastation is part of the DNA of Rotary,” said Assistant Governor for Rotary District 7020, Ryan Geluk.

“Rotary in the BVI has been doing this for more than twenty years and we are most grateful to the community for the support that they give us every time. I encourage the BVI community to give as generously as they can, notwithstanding the difficult circumstances in which many of us find ourselves,” he added.

The telethon is expected to be aired on all social media platforms, as well as on 284 Media, JTV, and as many radio stations as possible.
