BVIFA to boost security @ games following recent schoolboys brawl

The British Virgin Islands Football Association says it will be beefing up security around its games, following a fight amongst schoolboys after a recent match which resulted in serious injuries sustained to at least one of those involved.

A statement from the BVIFA released on February 2023, said the association was saddened to learn about the incident at the East End / Long Look venue following the conclusion of a Schools football match between Elmore Stout High School and Begrado Flax Educational Centre.

“Whilst the incident was after the successful conclusion of the football match and seemingly caused by a group of youths with no connection to the game, the FA, through the office of its President, Mr. Andy Bickerton, has been quick to state that such actions have no place in sport or at a venue primarily serving sports and young people,” the statement detailed.

The BVIFA said with over 10 years’ experience of organizing games between island teams, it has never encountered ‘outside violence of this, or any kind” stated Mr. Andy Bickerton

BVIFA does not condone violence - Bickerton

“The BVI FA does not condone nor will it tolerate violence and we will do everything we can to assist the police in their investigation of the matter,” Bickerton added.

Mr. Bickerton also went on to add that as an immediate effect of the incident, the FA will boost security around the field to ensure the future safety of its players, officials, coaches, and fans.

The FA added that they will be making no further comments until the conclusion of the police investigation of the incident and added that they have every faith that the authorities will view the video footage and take the appropriate action.

It remains unclear what prompted the fight between the schoolboys at the conclusion of the match.
