The measure was highlighted in the Cabinet decisions of May 28, 2021, in statements released on June 10, 2021, and it will take effect from July 1, 2021, and run until June 30, 2023, for a period of two years.

Further, according to the decisions, after the two-year duty-free period, the customs duty applied to all renewable energy products/items being imported into the Territory be reduced to 10% across the board.

The cabinet documents also noted that a policy decision was made for all government-owned facilities to begin the process of transitioning all fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs and light fixtures to LED lighting and light fixtures.

In addition, for energy-efficient products/items being imported into the Territory, the customs duty will be a flat rate of 15% across the board starting April 2023.

The Cabinet documents also noted that a policy decision was made for all government-owned facilities to begin the process of transitioning all fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs and light fixtures to LED lighting and light fixtures.

Consideration has also been given for the conversion of all government-owned vehicles from gas and diesel to hybrid and electric-driven cars.
