Cabinet earmarks nearly $500K for two new social homes

The government has earmarked a little under a half-a-million dollars to construct two new social homes in the British Virgin Islands.
The social homes will be constructed on Jost Van Dyke (JVD) and on the main island of Tortola.

A post-meeting Cabinet document released recently noted that Cabinet awarded Construction Engineering System (BVI) Ltd a $124,536.50 contract for the construction of a social home in Little Harbour, JVD.

The construction company was given the contract on recommendation from the Central Tenders Board.

The Tenders Board also recommended ATD (Attention To Detail) Construction for the second social home which will be constructed in the Third District community of Sea Cow’s Bay.

Cabinet accepted the recommendation and awarded ATD that contract, which is valued at $327,624.77.

ATD is owned and operated by Karen Vanterpool, Loren Walwyn and Erma Vanterpool-Butler.

Cabinet, which made these decisions during its December 14 meeting last year, also decided that the Ministry of Social Development instruct the Attorney General’s Chambers to vet the relevant agreement for each contract.
