Cabinet meets today following ‘positive developments’

The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands is set to meet today, Friday, September 11, 2020, following the announcement that 20 additional persons have fully recovered from COVID-19 and only one new case has been discovered.

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Carvin Malone (AL) said the recovered cases reduce the number of active cases to 33.

“Given these positive developments, Cabinet will be meeting on Friday to receive a full briefing and consider policy decisions to further guide the way forward,” he said.

He continued: “Continuing on this positive path requires full and active cooperation from all of us. We must remember to take personal responsibility and hold each other accountable for adherence to the Public Health measures that have been put in place to suppress and control the COVID-19 virus. Once again, we strongly urge all members of the public to comply with all established health and safety protocols and dial 311 to report any suspicious activity.”

Revamped taskforce

Minister Malone also said, the Environmental Health Division and its newly revamped Social Distancing Task Force will be fully deployed over the coming days to actively monitor compliance and strictly enforce the Suppression Measures for businesses, other establishments, and all persons in public places.

“These simple measures include handwashing, physical distancing, and the wearing of face masks that cover your nose and mouth, but not the entire face. I also remind you to contact the Medical Hotline at 852-7650 to be assessed by a health professional if you experience any symptoms related to COVID-19. Common symptoms include – fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches, or difficulty breathing,” he urged.
