Call for Premier League and Sporting Organizations to Reduce Pitchside Betting Advertisements
The Premier League and other sports authorities are facing pressure from MPs to reduce gambling advertising at stadiums. The CMS Committee demands action to protect children and outlines that front-shirt sponsorship is just a fraction of gambling visibility during broadcasts.
In response, the Premier League plans to drop such sponsorships by 2026 but faces criticism over continued sleeve and LED ads. MPs call for a new code to regulate sports betting ads, expressing frustration at delays in its publication.
They advocate for tailored approaches to horse and greyhound racing but push for overall stricter regulation. A Premier League representative emphasizes ongoing responsible sponsorship efforts, while the Department for Culture, Media and Sport believes current measures are sufficient.
The Big Step group, however, argues the measures fall short and calls for a complete ban on football gambling ads to address the widespread harm they claim it causes.
