Cape Air bookings now match pre-COVID levels - Premier Fahie

Cape Air is reporting that the demand for flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico into Virgin Gorda, Virgin Islands (VI) is so high, it is showing figures that closely matched those exsisting before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was revealed by Premier and Minister of Finance, Honorable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) while responding to questions in a Press Conference on Friday, December 10, 2021.

Gov’t efforts paying off – Premier

“That’s impressive,” asserted Premier Fahie while re-emphasizing that the government’s efforts to boost tourism are paying off.

The Premier pointed out that territory has progressed in bringing back economic activities especially in the hospitality and tourism industries amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, he admitted that his government has a lot more to do, “we don’t have all the monies now, but we are going to do the really crucial things first.”

Just about two weeks ago the Virgin Gorda International Airport at Taddy Bay saw the first aircraft landing as the airport reopens following an extended closure.

Hon Fahie announced that Cape Air direct flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico will commence on December 17, 2021.

Airports re-open for business

According to premier Fahie during the press conference, “Thanks to the hard work that your Government has done in partnership with the BVI Airports Authority to upgrade and reopen the airport in Virgin Gorda last month, our partners in the airline industry are now able to offer direct airlift between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Virgin Gorda.” he said.

Hon Fahie announced that direct flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico will commence on December 17, 2021.

“From 17th December, 2021, and onwards, Cape Air will be commencing three flights daily in and out of the Taddy Bay Airport between Virgin Gorda and San Juan.”

He explained that flights will arrive daily at Virgin Gorda daily from 10:00 a.m., 1:43 p.m., and 5:16 p.m., with departures set daily from Virgin Gorda to San Juan at 7:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m., and 1:58 p.m.
