Chic Utility Room, Boot Room and Laundry Room Ideas

Utility room, laundry room and boot room ideas to inspire a makeover in the most overlooked spaces in the house...

Utility rooms are arguably the most useful the room in the house; they're often used as sculleries and laundry rooms, and often also double up as mud rooms or boot rooms. Some of us even manage to squeeze in pantry storage. But despite being a much-used space, they're not exactly high on the list when it comes to interior design. Hopefully these 23 stylish utility spaces will help change your mind.

Whether you opt for shaker style country-chic cabinetry, glam brass accents, patterned paper or sleek storage that Marie Kondo would approve of, there's an idea here for everyone.

If you have pets, it pays to incorporate a pet-wash station, à la Dina Bandman. Patterned wallpaper, basket storage, floating shelves and decorative accessories including potted plants and pretty vases transform this utility come laundry room into an Instagrammable space.

If the room is in a countryside setting, the utility room could also double up as a boot room or mud room, complete with coat storage and built-in bench seating for removing welly boots. A butler sink and a tap with ceramic handles would add to the country vibe, as would tongue and groove cabinetry. Sliding pocket doors or barn style doors are also high on our wish list for laundry rooms, as are pretty shutters.

For something more city chic, handless cabinetry, sleek lighting and matte surfaces work together to create a calming, zen interior.

And when it comes to colour, these laundry rooms and utility spaces are beautiful whether they come in blue, grey, green or pink. There's even chalkboard paint for multi-functional spaces, as chalkboard painted doors can double up as shopping lists and to-do lists, or as a doodle board for a room that doubles as a play room.

And finally, size isn't everything as these spaces prove; whether you just have a cupboard sized area to work with or a cavernous room, there's chic and stylish laundry room ideas to suit every sized space.

Statement Wallpaper

In this stunning laundry room design by interior designer Dina Bandman, wallpaper was chosen to complement the gloss blue tiles of the dog shower, and the white finish of the laundry spaces. A pretty pendant and the tiled geometric floor add to the finished look of this space.
