China Conducts Surprise Military Drills Around Taiwan
China has begun immediate military drills around Taiwan, just days after Lai Ching-te's presidential inauguration in Taipei. The exercises will surround Taiwan and continue through Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday morning, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) announced that it would begin immediate military drills surrounding Taiwan, just days after Lai Ching-te was inaugurated as President in Taipei.
The exercises began at 7:45 a.m. and will encompass the northern, eastern, and southern regions of Taiwan, extending into the Taiwan Strait and the areas near the islands of Kinmen, Matsu, and Dongyin.
The PLA has stated that these drills will continue through Thursday and Friday.
