Civil Works Start At Road Town Market Square

Civil works have commenced at the long-awaited Road Town Market Square project.

Acting Director of the Public Works Department Mr. Jeremy Hodge, told BVI Platinum News on Wednesday, November 17 that, “Right now we are doing the Civil Works; the planters have gone in first to allow us to establish the ground heights for the New Market Square.”

He continued: “Now that the planters are done we will be laying pipes for drainage this weekend then utility lines (water, sewerage, electricity etc.).”

Kiosks Next Year

In the meantime, the Acting Director informed that work on the kiosks will commence in the next few months.

He explained: “early next year you will begin to see the erection of the market square kiosks, which will be 16 in total. At the moment the ministry is preparing to place orders for the material for the kiosks and will be purchasing in bulk.”

A brand new restroom facility will also be erected, he informed.

Groundbreaking for this project was done on October 12 last year and according to Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon. Kye Rymer the project will be a critical step for the territory to stimulate economic growth.

The project is expected to be completed in a nine-month time frame.

Among the amenities, will be a gazebo, green spaces, restrooms, a bus depot and local monumental artefacts.

At the ceremony, the Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie informed that other communities such as Carrot Bay and Virgin Gorda will also have new markets.
