‘CoI has made us afraid of being family & friends'- Skelton-Cline

Virgin Islands radio talk show host, Claude O. Skelton-Cline says the Virgin Islands (VI) Commission of Inquiry (CoI) has made persons residing in the Virgin Islands afraid to be family and friends.

On the June 15, 2021, edition of his Honestly Speaking radio show on ZBVI 780 AM, Mr Skelton-Cline said as a result of the ongoing inquiry, persons are allegedly starting to disown each other.

“I don't know how in God's name… because a COI is happening… you are allowing that process for you to disown each other,” he said.

Skelton-Cline continued, “We are family, we are friends we're not all bosom buddies. A few of us won't be the first ones we call when the worst happens, but you should be unapologetic and unashamed in your culture,” he said.

Day 10 of the CoI live hearings live steam on July 14, 2021. Claude O. Skelton-Cline called on Virgin Islanders to remain unique and don't let this process erode the social fabric of the territory.

The local clergyman further called on Virgin Islanders to remain unique and don't let this process erode the social fabric of the territory.

“We are family, we are friends, own it and all each other. Man up and woman up, speak truth to power as you know it best,” he said while underscoring that Virgin Islanders have always lived like family.

“We've been living like this since we know ourselves as brothers and sisters supporting each other, critiquing each other, running campaigns against each other and still going over having a drink with each other”

He also asked that Virgin Islanders not let a process of the UK running a CoI cause a greater wedge and division between the people of the territory.
