I worked overseas for many years to support my family and I’ve found that to a person, no matter their status in life, they hate Trump. People around the world look to America for leadership. Trump insults everyone he meets except the dictator. Please, do not allow this this person to carry his brand of darkness, confusion and corruption anywhere on Mother Earth.

Some say he “got things done.” But he didn’t! He appointed qualified people in the beginning- except for Ivanka and Jarod, but then he fired them when they failed to do his bidding. His replacements were so bad they’d never have been confirmed, so he put “acting” lackeys in to do as he ordered, whether it was legal or not. He tried to ban all Muslims from entering the country, which failed. He promised to build a wall, which he did not do - he barely reinforced walls that were already there. He said Mexico would pay for the wall, which of course, they didn’t. He got taxes lowered on billionaires after he’d promised to lower taxes on the middle class. He negotiated with the Taliban to exit Afghanistan, agreeing to a date during his term of office, and then leaving us in until Biden was in office - after having committed to the Taliban we’d be out. Of course the Taliban started taking over and taking retribution on Afghans who cooperated with us. They had a deal with Donald Trump and were not going to start over negotiating with a new President. And those Afghans who helped us? Trump’s little buddy Stephan Miler blocked all requests to let them in to the U.S., knowing they’d be slaughtered, and despite requests from U.S. service members, and Congressmen, both Republicans and Democrats. Biden opened up those visas and we were able to save some, but not all. Can you imagine how that will hamper cooperation in any future conflict? I’d ask for my visa upfront, before I helped America in the future. Even translators and their families were targeted and in some cases killed.
Trump also blocked even legal immigration. And, under the economy Biden rebuilt, unemployment is at historic lows. Unfortunately, we could use more legal immigrants as we have 11 million more jobs than people to fill them. This hampers the growth of our economy.
And, what has Trump done since losing the election and 60+ lawsuits contesting it? Just incite a mob to storm the capital who smeared feces on the wall and erected a gallows before chanting “Hang Mike Pence.” And promote the lie that the election was stolen from him, despite many many recounts continuing to validate the results. Oh, and fundraise to “Stop the Steal” and actually use that money for his legal fees.

Trump got NOTHING of value done for the American people. He is every bit as awful as the writer says he is.

This was a very funny spoof of modern society based around a male supemodel of that name played by Ben Stiller. His signature "look" was called "Blue Steel", and you can Google it if you don't remember what it looks like. I am sure Trump studied this look before he went in to pose for his mug shot, and the resulting photo was something I believe might appropriately be called "Rusty Steel" or even "Orange Jelly" because of Trump's famously orange skin tone.

I will recount an occurrence that was televised during the Flint, Michigan water cries when Trump was a candidate for president or about to become one. I’m not sure which, but it is immaterial. He came to Flint allegedly to show concern about the serious water crisis. He was at a meeting at a church and instead of addressing the water issue, he started by attacking his opponent Hillary Clinton. The woman pastor stopped him mid sentence to remind him that he was there not to criticize his opponent but to address the water crisis. He immediately fled the room as if being pursued by an angry mob. Donald Trump is a bully and like most bullies a coward. He wasn’t interested in anything but gaining politically and could not handle the mild rebuke. Of course, he wasn't even vaguely interested in the water problem plaguing the area.

As a child, I loved the 90s film remake of ‘The Little Rascals.’ Trump had a cameo; he was the pompous, bratty little rich kid’s dad. He has one line, “you’re the best son money could buy,” or something like that. I couldn’t stand him after that.

As we know, cameos are a reflection of that person and this cameo is a great example. You could say the same for any of his other “acting” appearances. All he cares about are appearances and popularity and wealth and this is wholly evident in the way he presents himself and the way he approaches his “fans.” Because that’s what they are. Fans. On behalf of the dwindling decent population of America....we apologize and ARE embarrassed. Rightly or wrongly Americans were always taught that we were "special", and maybe at one point we were. But what that created was a population that never paid attention to what other Countries watched from afar in horror as we became something that we ourselves would not recognize. I know the UK has their own set of problems but would you consider taking just 51% of us back??????

As a citizen of the USA who did not -- and will not, ever, for any office -- vote for Donald Trump, I'd like to add my two cents' (tuppence?) worth. I agree with Mr White's assessment, especially about Trump's lack of humour. The best comment I've read on humourless people came from a novel by Jack Whyte , "The Eagle." It's final novel of a series on the Arthurian legends called "The Camulod Chronicles." In this book, Clothar of Benwick -- Whyte's take on Lancelot -- has this to say:

"A man who cannot laugh at himself can never see the humor in anyone or anything else, and that is a tragic flaw, no matter who or what it may involve. For in the lack of humor lie all the seeds of evil and destruction. People who see themselves as worthy of admiration, and who cannot conceive of themselves as ever being a cause for laughter, are too serious for their own good, and even worse, they generally believe they have a calling to impress the acceptance of their beliefs on others. God save all from humorless men, for they are also merciless and implacable."

I like this, I do, and I've read it before. But, it speaks too well of Britain because it speaks too well of Britons, who have been our partners in literal crime, crimes they taught us (America) how to commit, since 1785 (and before The Revolution) — those parts about David and bullies and compassion ring so hollow they may have come from Trump's empty heart & head were they not directed at him.

Whilst not at all disagreeing with the description of the fat, orange anus, the article paints us British in rather too generous - and uniform - a light.

In recent years, the UK has voted for both Brexit and Bozo Johnson. Both in the same ball park as voting for the guy who sprays himself orange.

Or rather, a *proportion* of the UK voted for those things. And that's important, because it shows just how deeply divided the UK is. Many of the Brexit/Bozo-supporting camp love the fat, orange anus.

I agree totally with this article, but Trump does make jokes - but only after he has made a really stupid statement about a serious subject, which shows his ignorance to the world - and then, he is “just joking.” And don’t forget, he separated innocent children from their parents as a matter of policy like never done before or since in our history by a president. Evil, and the world knows it. I know, Obama did it sometimes, but mostly to protect the child from a bad parent/adult. Even prisoners, who are incarcerated, usually know where their kids are and can sometimes have visits, which is not the same as desperate people who are seeking a better life for their children and then were torn apart. I could add more to the list, too.

Thank you for clearly and succinctly (because I personally could go on ad nauseum and in detail with my own list) painting such an accurate picture of this pile of... everything that's wrong in a human being.

I love this, but it is all so true that it's sad for me as an American and NOT a Trump supporter. Also, seeing my fellow Americans think the way he behaves is okay and copying his racist, sexist, disgusting antics hurts me. Ticks all the boxes: whataboutery, blaming elites (is the guy with the gold toilet not an elite?), whining about people flaunting their moral superiority. What these people are unwilling to admit, even to themselves is that Trump doesn’t care one jot for his country or anyone else. Every one of his failed policy decisions was based on profiting the rich and the corporations. Biden & Co may not be perfect, they’re a centre right party after all, but they’re not sociopaths with laundry lists of character flaws.

Dear Mr Independent, the unfortunate thing here is that you point out that Trump’s policies are the key to understanding his value, and to appreciate him one needs to actually understand these policies. Unfortunately almost no one in the US reads behind the politicians’ talking points.

So here’s a quick list of Trump’s policies:
Repeal Obamacare (failed, but did limit it some; coronavirus policies and management (ingest bleach, UV light, demonize Fauci, etc – a total mess); fund Christian (religious) schools by diverting money from public schools (failed, but did serve to polarize the population and ignore the separation of church and state); reduced regulations for offshore drilling (succeeded with obvious environmental liabilities); reduced methane emissions regulations (green house gas), even oil companies such as BP and Shell publicly spoke out against these regs (BTW, are you hot enough this summer?); 2018 effort to reign in Dept of Defence discretionary $$ (succeeded, good policy); $1.5 trillion tax cuts (neither side really liked this, but it got through and became a “sugar high” economically with little lasting value to the average American (but lots of value to the wealthy - once your portfolio goes up 50% you can continue to grow that money!); Vehicle emissions represent the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the US. Trump reduced the 5% improvement requirement on auto companies to 1.5% ( Go, Donald! BTW, who is a winner here?); Build the Wall (I’ll leave it to you to guess what happened); Blocked Huawei & ZTE from doing meaningful business with the government and most US companies followed (success!), Subsidies to farmers were the highest in 40 years as a result of tariffs imposed by other countries against the US, as a result of tariffs against China (was this a “win”, well, farmers are part of his base); reducing the effect of Dodd-Frank (with more large bank mergers following and much less transparancy); exited or attempted to eviscerate the North American Trade Agreement, NAFTA, NATO, World Trade Organization – all with no recognizable gains and identifiable losses. But, he did meet with his friends in N Korea and Russia – which represent terrible visuals to us here in the US and the peaceful world.

The article above is a very good, sad commentary on a bully who has no regard for anyone but himself and growing his personal wealth Jared/Saudi fund management deal – you’ve got to be kidding). Eighteen of Trumps cohorts from his administration were indicted, some while he was in office and the rest within a year or so. The current lawsuits to chase down Trump and his sidekicks will leave dozens more in prison or barred from office, including him, I hope. The fact that this is unprecedented is no consolation. The fact that we had a bully-leader who would step on even his own inner circle, that many people still voted for, shows that there are a lot of disenfranchised people in America and that social media is a great manipulator, and we suffer from it. Fascism is not the answer, it is a scab festering on a sick Republican party. Trump fits that definition perfectly. Look it up.

Having just read this again from a recent article.....the writing is still a perfect summary of what my father and many other father's of my age group shared to help us build our charecter and be successful in whatever direction our lives took. I have 61 years of life experience, I was raised by parents who were children of the great depression, one of 7 children blessed to be born to them. My parents taught us all what it was to have good character, humility, graciousness, and understanding as a backbone to our development as people. My father did not put up with any behaviors that would impact our potential in life and made sure we learned from mistakes and reset ourselves to move forward. I can only imagine the person written about either rejected the teachings from his parents or his parents did not believe he could be taught or learn from mistakes and be better.

As I emerge from underneath my duvet, I’m oddly relieved someone has described TFG so intricately accurate. As you British full well understand, the real measure of a person is not know until evidence has seen the sunlight. But, the one general trait and fault is our lack of education and critical thinking skills; which indicts educational institutions in the US acting as profit making clubs for the wealthy and connected. Now, surely, you can relate to that. If we are fortunate enough to see TFG in jail for his crimes, it will not be because he doesn’t have a sense of humor. But you may have a point. If we had a law against people with No Sense of Humor, we could do away with many bad actors…even from Britain, South Africa, America….

The comment area, surprisingly or unsurprisingly, is infested with self claimed “elite”s festival of false moral superiority and phony sophistications. Yes, Trump is all what the author described and in fact, many American people see these Trump’s moral and intellectual failures too (we are not that stupid). Yet, many people chose him over Hillary Clinton, and then Biden. Why? The truth is in people’s eyes, the Clinton’s, the Biden’s, the Bush’s, in general, career politicians, are no different than Thump beneath their careful and beautiful wrapping. Among self-serving and corrupted politicians, people choose to stand with Trump’s policies. Discussing Trump without deep analysis of his policy and broader American political landscape, players and the last 40 years of American history is intellectual laziness, a blind sight. Until then, the hypocrite “elite” will truly understand and respect 74+ MM American people, their choices, their rights and stop name calling/bully their fellow Americans.

Obviously our electoral system needs adjustment as the popular vote did not elect this fraction of a person to represent we the people. This is the best writing I have read in decades. It is eloquently written with no semblance of sarcasm. Just a spot on accurate description of a deeply flawed human. I'm a 60-year-old American and do still wear my Obama hat around my redneck mechanic friends who still have some type of weird love for Trump. It's been quite enjoyable recently. As someone who grew up near New York City in the 70s/80s, when the original unscripted real-life Donald Trump reality show was running on the local news and in newspapers (affairs, shabby business deals, shameless and embarrassing self-promotion) it seemed utterly baffling how that buffoon came to office. I imagine the feelings that Superman might have, returning to Metropolis to discover that Lex Luthor had been elected mayor. ("But, but, last year he tried to turn you all into bipedal opossums! What were you THINKING?" "Yeah, but he's going to clean up the subways!")

Because of the archaic and increasingly inequitable Electoral College system, Trump was elected with a minority of the popular vote, and never had a majority of popular approval. The latest polls shows 53% will absolutely not vote for him again, and 11% "probably wouldn't" vote for him.

So, take hope. Even if this pompous loon doesn't end up in prison, he will be nothing but a sore loser after 2024, resented by the GOP party establishment and mocked soundly by everyone but a shrinking, aging, increasingly daft minority.

Oh Scott, I wish I could buy you a beer and we could have a chat together. The first two parts of your philosophy about why people say negative things (threat, jealousy or follow the crowd) are perhaps Trump's, but certainly not most people's, especially when they are watching from a great distance. Most of us know we are flawed and don't like to criticise others, but when we see someone so far beneath our values who has dragged a whole society into the swamp, we know we are justified.

We do need to wake up to the plan that will strip us of our wealth and human rights so a handful of autocratic, oligarchic, psychopaths can keep us under their thumb while they take most of the world's resources for themselves. But follow the money. Those people are backing Trump and the republicans, funding the Federalist Society, supporting racism and child labor and everything that makes us working folks insecure.
Trump is actually one of them, but he's an artful broadcaster who has fooled millions into thinking he's what he says he is. He's the classic wolf in sheep's clothing. Everything he says is aimed at getting him more money and power, and when that happens, he does it even more, all for his own benefit. He didn't help ordinary Americans, he played on their insecurities, as he made autocrats like him (Kim Jong Un, Putin, Crown Prince, etc.) - ones who are repressing and killing their people - even stronger. He ran up the debt of working Americans by giving tax cuts to the rich as he spent more. He gave $ billions to those psychopaths who want to keep us under their thumb. Now they are investing a few percent of that back into their power grab, dismantling the mechanisms of US democracy bit by bit, using their paid-for judges and representatives.
