Constantly Shutting Down Is Not The Answer

The government has been knocked for being reactive and shutting down every time someone tests positive with COVID-19.
Opposition Leader, Hon. Marlon Penn said this cannot be the answer.

“We cannot continue to be reactive every time someone is COVID-19 positive. Shutting down and constant redirection cannot be the solution,” he said today, August 6.

He added, “COVID-19 is not going away in a hurry, so we need a coherent and well-articulated plan as to how we intend to co-exist with this virus and safely re-open our economy. We need this urgently before we cause irreparable harm to our economy and our way of life.”

The Opposition Leader said no doubt they must protect the borders, but there must be a balance.

“…We must protect our people and our health, but we must balance this against the needs of our families, businesses and our economy,” he stated.

Hon. Penn said decisions that seem to be made in a vacuum without consultation have ripple effects on the economy and livelihood of the people.

There is currently one active COVID-19 case in the Territory which was imported and that individual is being quarantined.

Recently, the government locked-down the sister island of Jost Van Dyke after St. Vincent and the Grenadines reported that a traveler from the BVI who landed in that country tested positive for COVID-19. However, it was later discovered that the positive taste was false.
