Contacts of Premier & Deputy Premier asked to self-isolate & get tested

Persons who may have been in contact with the Premier and Deputy Premier in the past week without a mask are being asked to self-isolate and be tested.

This is according to the Ministry of Health in a press release on December 25, 2021.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) announced on December 24, 2021, that he, along with the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), had tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the press release, the Premier and Deputy Premier continue to make great strides towards recovery; however, out of an abundance of caution, the Ministry of Health is asking all persons who may have been in contact with the Premier and Deputy Premier in the past week without a mask to self-isolate and be tested.

Testing for persons who were in contact with the Premier and Deputy Premier without a mask in the past week will be done on Thursday, December 30 and Friday, December 31, 2021, at the white tent outside the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital Emergency Room.

Testing of contacts

Persons who think they may have been exposed are asked to submit their names and contact numbers to PHU@gov.vg with the caption “Possible Exposure to Premier or Deputy Premier” or call the office at 468 2274 from Wednesday, December 29, the press release stated.

It also said testing for such persons will be on Thursday, December 30 and Friday, December 31, 2021, at the white tent outside the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital Emergency Room.

Meanwhile, as of December 24, 2021, there were 143 active cases of COVID-19 in the territory.
