COVID closes Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour & Immigration

COVID closes Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour & Immigration

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour, & Immigration is closed from Thursday, July 1 until further notice.
The ministry issued that announcement minutes of 8 pm on Wednesday.

“The reason for closure is that two members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19 and in accordance with Public Health procedures, unvaccinated and partially vaccinated members of staff are being required to isolate for 10-14 days followed by the appropriate testing,” the ministry stated.

It is not immediately clear whether all ministry’s departments are closed. But this is at least the second government agency that has been indefinitely closed because of COVID-19. The other is the Magistrate’s Court on Tortola.

The news comes as the Ministry of Health is undergoing a major contact tracing exercise amid confirmed reports of 49 active cases of COVID-19 in the territory.

Persons who believe they’ve been exposed to COVID-19 and would like information on what steps to take are advised to contact the Public Health Unit at 284-468-4936 or 284-468-2285.
