The Virgin Islands is now seeing its highest number of COVID-19 cases since the global coronavirus pandemic touched these shores.

According to an update from the Government of the Virgin Islands today, July 1, 2021, there are now 91 active cases, with 42 being new ones.

82 of the cases are on Tortola and 9 on Virgin Gorda.

15 local cases; 52 contacts of cases


According to the Territory's Epidemiological Survey, there are 15 local cases and 52 being contacts of cases.

12 cases are asymptomatic and 79 are mildly asymptomatic.

The VI government has not made vaccination mandatory but has been encouraging persons to take the vaccine available free of cost.

July 3, 2021, is the final date for first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
