Crime Stoppers Revived

Crime Stoppers Revived

Crime Stoppers, which is a popular mechanism that encourages the public to give information that will assist officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) to solve crimes is back, thanks to a collaboration between the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association (BVICCHA) and the RVIPF.

Crime Stoppers BVI was founded in 2003 as a non-profit organization, dedicated to the reduction and detection of crime in the Territory. The organization enabled the public to provide information to the police through community donations, education and using an anonymous, untraceable, confidential and free TIPS line 1-800-744-8477.

Unfortunately, there was a lull in the service and the BVICCHA is now announcing that the Crime Stoppers initiative has been reenergized.

The Chamber stated that in order to mobilize the service, it is inviting interested persons to volunteer to be a member of the Crime Stoppers BVI Board.

It was noted that the BVICCHA is seeking two persons to serve on the Crime Stoppers BVI Board, which is responsible for promoting crime awareness campaigns, fundraising for the Crime Reporting Reward Fund, and networking with the regional and international Crime Stoppers programs.

The Chamber noted that the revival of Crime Stoppers is one step to ensure that the BVI remains a safe and secure place to live and do business.
