CTL introducing first-ever troop to August Monday parade

CTL introducing first-ever troop to August Monday parade

Local retailer Clarence Thomas Limited (CTL) will be introducing its first-ever troop at this year’s Emancipation Festival celebrations.

“We were sitting down talking and one of our employees said why not let’s do an inclusion troop for the 65th [emancipation festivities] and we talked about it and decided it would be a really great idea to actually show that we really are united in what we do with all of our employees; especially being so multicultural here in the BVI,” said the Chief of Operations at CTL, David Thomas.

He alluded to CTL as being one of the few companies in the BVI with employees from all over the region and believes this event can be used as a stepping stone in creating a sense of unity and inclusion in the territory.

“It’s all about trying to unite the country back together again and let everybody still realise that we’re still one family. We maybe from everywhere but we are still one family and we are going to celebrate BVI culture as one family,” Thomas said, adding that the troop is being dubbed ‘Rep Your Flag’.

He also explained that the CTL’s troop name and its design was thoughtfully created to include all 22 country flags from the Caribbean.

“When you sign up for [our troop], you are going to get a bag and inside your bag, you will have a T-shirt, a rag, a flag, a bottle and it also gets you on our truck on August 6 — whatever food and drinks and everything else that we have.”

He added: “You don’t necessarily have to carry your country flag but we are repping our flags for everybody on that day.”

Persons who are interested in signing up to participate in the ‘Rep Your Flag’ can log on to CTL’s Facebook page or their webpage (www.ctlbvi.com) to secure a spot.
