D-Day Anniversary: Russia Invited, but Not Putin, Over Ukraine Conflict
The Liberation Mission organizing committee announced on Tuesday that Russia, but not President Vladimir Putin, will be invited to the French ceremony in June to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings during World War II.
The committee explained that due to the current circumstances, President Putin would not be extended an invitation.
The reason given was Russia's involvement in what the committee described as a "war of aggression" in Ukraine.
Despite this, Russia will still be invited to the event to recognize the significance of the Soviet peoples' commitment and sacrifices during the war, as well as their contribution to the 1945 victory.
