Dame Priti Patel, former home secretary, announced her bid for the Conservative Party leadership, aiming to unite Tories and restore them to electoral success.

Patel, the first woman in the race, joins James Cleverly, Robert Jenrick, Tom Tugendhat, and Mel Stride in the contest.

Patel emphasizes conservative policies on law and order, immigration, and healthcare while promising to give more voice to party members.

With 30 years in politics, Patel has held significant roles including her part in the Vote Leave campaign and negotiating immigration policies post-Brexit.

Despite past allegations of bullying, she retains strong Tory support.
